India Kennedy BSc (Hons), D.Clin.Psych. CPsychol

Dr. India Kennedy works with a group of highly qualified clinical psychologists in a small, specialist psychology service based in London, Mayfair called the Integrated Psychology Clinic. After moving to Marlow in 2020 she has now set up a branch of the service at the Kyan clinic, seeing clients online and in-person.

India is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist (BPS and HCPC registered) who worked within the NHS for over 10 years in a variety of leading hospitals such as at The Royal Brompton, The Evelina Children’s Hospital at St Thomas’ and the Tavistock clinic in London. She is now working exclusively in private practice.

India sees people of all ages, across the lifespan, with various challenges to their mental health such as anxiety, depression, physical health difficulties, identity exploration, low self-esteem and trauma – to name but a few. With the sharp rise in mental health difficulties, alongside the decrease in NHS services to support these people, India is keen to provide a service to fill some of this gap.

India has special interests in child and adolescent mental health, physical health and perinatal care, contributing to IPC’s Child and AdolescentAdult Mental HealthPhysical HealthGender and Perinatal clinics. She is experienced in supporting young people and adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, such as anxiety, stress, trauma, identity development and depression.

In terms of physical health, India has supported clients with conditions such as cystic fibrosis, diabetes and children with a variety of critical and non-critical physical health problems. She is committed to helping people with the management of acute and chronic pain and physical health diagnoses. India is passionate about recognising the mind-body link and therefore attends to the clients physical body in her therapeutic work.

India has a great deal of experience working within educational settings. She currently manages an in-house psychology service that IPC provides for a chain of independent schools.

India views her therapeutic work with clients as integrative, meaning that she draws on different therapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), systemic therapy, narrative therapy, somatic experiencing and mindfulness techniques in order to tailor the approaches she uses depending on each client’s individual needs.

Pre and post-natal wellbeing
India also runs a specialist pre and post-natal wellbeing clinic for all stages of the parenting journey, from the moment an individual begins to contemplate parenthood. She believes that supporting parents at the earliest stages allows for a positive and empowering experience of parenthood and this translates to the child.

India is experienced in offering bespoke interventions and support for individuals who are:

  • Contemplating pregnancy and experiencing anxiety and ambivalence (which may be related to previous traumas or experiences).
  • Struggling to conceive or considering alternative avenues to family building
  • Receiving fertility treatment, including IVF
  • Miscarriage and baby loss
  • Fetal health complications, navigating investigations and decision making
  • Maternal health difficulties
  • Anxiety related to pregnancy
  • Tokophobia (Phobia of childbirth).
  • Post-natal low mood & depression
  • Post-natal anxiety
  • Parent-infant attachment
  • Adjustment to parenting
  • Relationship challenges

Trauma and Birth trauma
For some parents, childbirth does not follow the route the they had hoped for. Occasionally, complications can arise during childbirth and this can sometimes be a frightening experience. Sadly, 30% of couples describe their birth as traumatic. A significant group will go on to develop symptoms of PTSD and some will reach threshold for diagnosis. Untreated trauma can lead to ongoing anxiety, challenges connecting with baby or partner, post-natal depression and ongoing distress in subsequent pregnancies. India offers tailored, trauma-informed therapy to women or their partners. Trauma responses are not limited to challenging births. Other events such as miscarriage and baby loss, premature births, long journeys with infertility and NICU stays can also lead to post-trauma reactions. India is experienced psychologists in being able to support you with any aspect of your parenting journey that you may have found traumatic.
